My name is Audre Wirtanen. Dance and neuroscience are the things I love to learn about. Fortunately for me, I am about to share my interests with dancers, actors, and students of Yerevan, Armenia through the Art and Cultural Studies Laboratory. This blog will have posts with many pictures of places that I travel (for you Mom & Dad & Clay), videos of my classes/ workshops & studio rehearsals, and paragraphs reflecting on whatever emerges.

I am not a dualist, I believe the mind is engendered through an embodied nervous system. I believe that understanding our own moving body is integral to the full human experience. Dance and brain research can be combined to better understand the complexity of the embodied brain. We experience the world through movement- gross motor coordination is just as imperative as pupillary muscle contraction, inhalation, exhalation, and touch.  I also believe that it is important for humans to have access to general knowledge of mammalian brain principles because it can be informative and helpful when struggling with (directly or indirectly) mental discrepancies, social involvement,  and ‘normal’ development, to name a few.
